Updated March 3, 2026 • 4 min read
💡 Chime Is Actually Free
Chime has no monthly fees. No minimum balance. No overdraft fees. If you're looking to "cancel your Chime subscription," there's nothing to cancel — it's free. What you probably want is to close your Chime account entirely.
Before You Close Your Account
- Transfer your balance to another bank account
- Update direct deposit with your employer — switch to your new bank
- Move automatic payments (bills, subscriptions) to another card
- Pay off Credit Builder balance if you have one
- Use SpotMe advances — any outstanding SpotMe balance must be repaid
How to Close Your Chime Account
- Open the Chime app
- Tap Settings (gear icon)
- Scroll down to Close Account
- Follow the prompts to confirm
Or call 1-844-244-6363 or email support@chime.com.
Close Credit Builder Only (Keep Checking)
If you just want to close the Credit Builder card but keep your Chime checking account:
- Open Chime app → Credit Builder
- Tap Settings
- Tap Close Credit Builder Account
- Any remaining balance moves to your Chime checking account
What Happens After Closing
- Debit card and Credit Builder card are immediately deactivated
- Remaining balance is mailed as a check (7-10 business days)
- Direct deposits will be returned to sender
- Credit Builder payments are reported to credit bureaus for up to 10 years (good for your credit history)
