How to Cancel Zoom Pro or Business in 2026
Zoom Pro costs $13.33/month (billed annually) but the free plan handles most people's needs. If the pandemic-era Zoom habit stuck but the meetings didn't, here's how to downgrade and save.
Cancel Zoom Pro/Business
- Sign in at zoom.us
- Go to Admin → Account Management → Billing
- Under Current Plan, click Cancel Plan
- Select a reason → click Continue to Cancel
- Confirm — your plan downgrades to Basic (Free) at end of billing cycle
Free Zoom vs Pro: What You Lose
Free (Basic) includes:
- Up to 100 participants
- 40-minute limit on group meetings (1:1 meetings are unlimited)
- Screen sharing, virtual backgrounds, breakout rooms
- Basic chat and whiteboard
Pro adds:
- 30-hour meeting length (no 40-min cap)
- 5GB cloud recording storage
- Zoom AI Companion features
- Custom branding
- Polls and Q&A
The 40-Minute Workaround
The free plan's 40-minute limit on group calls is the main reason people upgrade. But there are workarounds:
- Restart the meeting: When the timer hits, everyone rejoins with the same link — takes 30 seconds
- 1:1 calls are unlimited: If it's just two people, there's no time limit
- Use Google Meet instead: Free, 60-minute group limit (24-hour for Google Workspace users)
Zoom Pricing
- Basic: Free — 40-min group meetings, 100 participants
- Pro: $13.33/mo (annual) — 30-hour meetings, 5GB recording
- Business: $21.99/mo (annual) — 300 participants, company branding
- Business Plus: $26.99/mo — phone, 10GB recording
Getting a Refund
- Monthly plans: Cancel anytime, no refund for the current month
- Annual plans: Zoom does NOT proactively offer refunds for unused months
- Within 30 days: Contact support for a potential refund — they sometimes make exceptions
- Auto-renewal charge: If you were charged for a renewal you didn't want, contact support immediately
Free Alternatives to Zoom Pro
- Google Meet: Free, 60-min limit, no download needed (works in browser)
- Microsoft Teams (free): 60-min meetings, 100 participants, screen sharing
- Discord: Free video calls up to 99 people, no time limit, screen share
- Jitsi Meet: Free, open source, no account needed, no time limit
- FaceTime: Free for Apple users, now supports Windows/Android via web link
Delete Your Zoom Account Entirely
If you want to fully remove your Zoom account (not just downgrade):
- Cancel your paid plan first
- Go to Profile → scroll down → Terminate My Account
- This permanently deletes your account, meeting history, and cloud recordings
- Your personal meeting link stops working
Annual Savings: $160-$264/Year
Canceling Zoom Pro saves $160/year; Business saves $264/year. With Google Meet and Jitsi available for free with no time limits, most individuals and small teams have excellent free options.
