How to Cancel Xfinity Mobile in 2026 (Without Getting Burned)
Updated February 2026 · 7 min read
Xfinity Mobile is one of the trickiest services to cancel because it's tangled with your Comcast internet account. You can't cancel online — it requires a phone call. And if you have a financed device, they'll hit you with the remaining balance immediately. Here's how to do it cleanly.
🔴 Do this FIRST: Port your phone number to your new carrier before calling Xfinity to cancel. Once the port completes, Xfinity automatically begins the cancellation. If you cancel first and port second, you may lose your number.
Step 1: Port Your Number Out
- Choose your new carrier (T-Mobile, Mint, Visible, etc.)
- Get your Xfinity Mobile account number (Xfinity app → Account → scroll to bottom)
- Get your account PIN (Xfinity app → Account → PIN)
- Give these to your new carrier when activating — they handle the port
- Port takes 1-3 business days for mobile numbers
Step 2: Call to Cancel
- Call 1-888-936-4968
- Say "Cancel my Xfinity Mobile service"
- They'll try retention offers — stay firm if you've decided
- Confirm all lines are being cancelled
- Ask about your final bill and any device balance
- Get a cancellation confirmation number
The Device Payment Trap
If you financed a phone through Xfinity Mobile, the entire remaining balance becomes due immediately when you cancel. This can be hundreds of dollars. Before cancelling:
- Check your remaining device balance in the Xfinity app under Devices
- If it's significant, consider timing your cancellation around a trade-in deal with your new carrier
- T-Mobile and Verizon often offer to pay off device balances up to $800-1000 when switching
- Keep your device — it's unlocked after 60 days of activation (or immediately if paid in full)
What About Comcast Internet?
Cancelling Xfinity Mobile does not cancel your Comcast internet, and vice versa. However, you may lose bundle discounts. If you have a "bundled" rate, your internet price could increase $10-30/month after dropping mobile. Ask the agent about price changes before confirming.
Returning Equipment
Xfinity Mobile phones are yours to keep (you paid for them). But if you received any free promotional deviceswith a commitment, check your agreement — you may owe a device fee for early cancellation. There's no modem or router to return for mobile service specifically.
Cheaper Alternatives
If you're leaving because of price, these carriers use the same Verizon network as Xfinity Mobile:
- Visible: $25/month unlimited (same Verizon network)
- US Mobile: $25/month unlimited
- Mint Mobile: $15-30/month (T-Mobile network)
- Google Fi: $20/month for light users
Common Issues After Cancelling
- Still being charged: Final bill can take 1-2 billing cycles. If charges continue past that, call back with your confirmation number
- Lost number: This means you cancelled before porting. Contact your new carrier immediately — numbers can sometimes be recovered within 48 hours
- Internet price went up: Call Comcast retention (1-800-934-6489) and negotiate. They almost always have unadvertised deals
- Device locked: Must be active for 60 days and paid in full. Call to request unlock if you meet both conditions
