How to Cancel Wix Premium in 2026 (Get a Refund + Export Your Site)
Wix Premium plans run $17-159/month ($204-1,908/year). Here's how to cancel, downgrade to free, and deal with Wix's biggest problem: you can't easily take your site with you.
⚠️ The Wix Lock-In: Unlike WordPress, you cannot export your Wix site design, layout, or functionality. You can only export blog posts and some content as text. If you leave Wix, you're essentially rebuilding your site from scratch on the new platform.
Cancel Auto-Renewal (Keep Using Until Period Ends)
Log in to wix.com
Click your profile icon → Account Settings
Go to Subscriptions
Find your Premium plan → click Actions → Cancel Renewal
Confirm cancellation
Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period
Get a Refund
Within 14 days of purchase: Full refund guaranteed. Cancel via Account Settings and request a refund through Wix support.
After 14 days: No refund for unused time. Wix does NOT offer prorated refunds.
Annual plan: If you paid annually and are past 14 days, you're locked in for the year.
Domain purchased through Wix: Domain registration fees are non-refundable.
Contact Wix Support: Go to wix.com/support → Chat or phone callback
Export What You Can
Wix's export capabilities are intentionally limited:
Blog posts: Can be exported as XML from the Wix Blog dashboard → Settings → Export
Contact list: Contacts → Export to CSV
Wix Stores products: Store → Products → Export CSV
Page content: No bulk export — manually copy text and download images
Site design/layout: NOT exportable. Period. You'll rebuild on the new platform.
SEO settings: Manually note all meta titles, descriptions, and URL slugs
Transfer Your Domain
Wix-purchased domain: Domains → select domain → Transfer Away from Wix → get authorization code → transfer to Cloudflare/Namecheap
External domain: Update nameservers at your registrar to remove Wix's nameservers
Transfer timing: Domain transfers take 5-7 days to complete
DNS records: Set up your DNS records on the new provider BEFORE changing nameservers
What Happens After Cancellation
Your site stays on Wix's free plan (with Wix ads and branding)
Custom domain disconnects — site reverts to username.wixsite.com/sitename
Form submissions, analytics, and premium features stop
Storage reverts to 500MB (free plan limit)
Your site content and design are preserved on the free plan
Better Alternatives
WordPress.com ($4-45/mo): More powerful, fully exportable, massive plugin ecosystem. Real ownership of your content.
Squarespace ($16-49/mo): Better templates, real e-commerce, actual domain management.
Carrd ($19/year): If you just need a simple landing page or portfolio. Dead simple.
WordPress.org + hosting ($3-10/mo): Full control, you own everything, exportable, thousands of free themes.
Google Sites (free): For basic information sites. Free, no ads, custom domain support.
💡 The Wix Trap
Wix is easy to start but hard to leave. They offer a drag-and-drop builder that creates proprietary code you can't take with you. The longer you use Wix, the more painful migration becomes. If you're rebuilding anyway, choose a platform with export capabilities (WordPress, Squarespace, Ghost) so you're never locked in again.
