How to Cancel Weebly in 2026 (Export Site + Move to a Better Platform)
Updated 2026-03-03 · 6 min read
⚠️ Weebly Is Being Sunset by Square
Square acquired Weebly in 2018 and has been migrating users to Square Online. Weebly is no longer accepting new accounts and existing features are gradually being deprecated. If you haven't migrated yet, now is a good time to either move to Square Online (free) or switch to a different platform entirely.
Weebly Plans and Pricing
Free: Weebly subdomain (yoursite.weebly.com) — limited features
Personal: $10/month (billed annually) — custom domain, basic features
Professional: $12/month — site search, video backgrounds, phone support
Blog posts: Weebly → Settings → Blog → Export (downloads as RSS/XML file)
Pages: Copy text content manually or use a tool like HTTrack to download your entire site
Images: Download all uploaded images from Weebly's file manager
Products (ecommerce): Export product catalog as CSV from the Weebly dashboard
Customer data: Export orders and customer list before canceling
SEO settings: Screenshot your page titles, descriptions, and URL structures for recreation
⚠️ Weebly Has Limited Export Options
Unlike WordPress, Weebly doesn't offer a full site export. Blog posts export via RSS, but regular pages must be copied manually. If you have a large site, use a website copier tool (HTTrack, SiteSucker) to download a static HTML copy as backup before canceling.
Step 2: Transfer Your Domain
If you registered your domain through Weebly:
Go to Weebly → Settings → Domains
Click on your domain → Transfer Away
Disable Domain Lock
Request your EPP/Auth Code
Initiate transfer at your new registrar (Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains, etc.)
Transfer takes 5-7 days
Domain must be registered for 60+ days before transfer
Step 3: Cancel Weebly Subscription
Log into weebly.com
Click your site → Settings
Go to Account or Plans
Click Downgrade to Free or Cancel Plan
Confirm cancellation
Paid features deactivate at end of billing period
Your site reverts to free tier (weebly.com subdomain, Weebly branding appears)
Step 4: Delete Your Weebly Site (Optional)
Go to your Weebly dashboard
Click the three dots next to your site
Select Delete Site
Confirm deletion — this is permanent
Your site, content, and any remaining data are removed
Better Alternatives to Weebly
Square Online (free): Weebly's successor. If you use Square for payments, this is the natural migration path. Free plan available.
WordPress.com: Most flexible. Free plan available, or $4-$45/month for premium. Thousands of themes and plugins.
Wix: Best drag-and-drop builder for non-technical users. Free plan or $17-$159/month.
Squarespace: Best-looking templates. $16-$49/month. Great for portfolios, restaurants, and creatives.
Carrd: $19/year for simple one-page websites. Perfect for personal sites and landing pages.
Shopify: Best for ecommerce. $39-$399/month. If you're selling products, this is the gold standard.
Migrate to Square Online (Free)
Since Square owns Weebly, migration is relatively smooth:
Go to squareup.com/online-store
Sign in with your Weebly/Square account
Square may automatically import some of your Weebly content
Rebuild any pages that didn't transfer
Point your domain to Square Online
Free plan includes: online store, unlimited products, Square payment processing
📋 Migration Checklist
Export blog posts (RSS/XML)
Download all images and files
Export product catalog and customer data (ecommerce)
Screenshot SEO settings (titles, descriptions, URLs)
Transfer domain to new registrar or update DNS
Build new site on chosen platform
Set up 301 redirects from old URLs to new URLs
Cancel Weebly subscription
Delete site (optional)
Bottom line: With Weebly being sunset, migration is inevitable. Move sooner rather than later while all your content is still accessible. Square Online is the free path of least resistance, but WordPress or Squarespace are better long-term investments if you want a professional website.
