How to Cancel TracFone in 2026
Updated February 2026 • Difficulty: Easy • Prepaid
⚠️ Port your phone number BEFORE cancelling. Once TracFone deactivates your line, your number is released and you can never get it back. Start the port process with your new carrier first.
Option 1: Just Stop Adding Airtime
TracFone is prepaid — there's no contract. If you stop buying airtime, your service ends when your current plan or minutes expire. Your number is held for approximately 60 days after expiration, then released.
Option 2: Port Your Number to a New Carrier
- Choose your new carrier (Mint Mobile, Visible, T-Mobile, etc.)
- Get your TracFone account number (call 1-800-867-7183 or check online)
- Get your TracFone PIN (usually the last 4 of your SSN or a PIN you set)
- Give these to your new carrier — they handle the port
- Once the port completes (1-3 days), your TracFone line is automatically cancelled
Option 3: Call to Cancel
Call 1-800-867-7183 if you want to formally cancel and don't need to keep your number. Have your phone's serial number (IMEI) and account info ready.
Cancel Auto-Refill
If you have Auto-Refill enabled (automatic airtime purchases), turn it off:
- Log in at tracfone.com
- Go to Account → Auto-Refill
- Turn off Auto-Refill
- Remove your saved payment method
Cheaper Alternatives
- Mint Mobile — $15/month for 5GB (T-Mobile network)
- Visible — $25/month unlimited (Verizon network)
- US Mobile — from $8/month, choose T-Mobile or Verizon
- Tello — from $5/month, T-Mobile network
💡 Note: TracFone is owned by Verizon (acquired 2022). If your TracFone uses Verizon's network, porting to Visible or US Mobile (Verizon) keeps you on the same towers. If it uses T-Mobile's network, Mint Mobile or Tello give you the same coverage.
