How to Cancel Roku Subscriptions in 2026 (Remove Channels + Close Account)
Updated 2026-03-03 ยท 6 min read
๐บ The Hidden Subscription Trap
Roku makes it extremely easy to subscribe to channels with one click โ and extremely easy to forget about them. Many Roku users are paying for 3-5 channel subscriptions they never watch, billed through Roku rather than the service directly. Check your Manage Subscriptions page โ you might be surprised.
What You Might Be Paying For
Roku Channel Premium Subscriptions: Starz ($9.99), Showtime ($11.99), AMC+ ($8.99), BritBox ($7.99), and dozens more โ billed through Roku
Channel subscriptions via Roku: Paramount+, Discovery+, Apple TV+, etc. โ if you subscribed through the Roku interface, Roku is the billing intermediary
Free trial conversions: That 7-day Starz trial from 6 months ago? Probably still billing.
Cancel Roku Channel Subscriptions (Website)
Go to my.roku.com and sign in
Click Manage your subscriptions
You'll see every active subscription billed through Roku
Click Unsubscribe next to each one you want to cancel
Confirm the cancellation
Access continues until the end of your current billing period
Cancel Roku Channel Subscriptions (Device)
On your Roku device, navigate to the channel you want to cancel
Press the * (star/options) button on your remote
Select Manage subscription
Select Cancel subscription
Confirm โ you'll keep access until the billing period ends
โ ๏ธ Roku-Billed vs Direct-Billed
If you subscribed to Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+ through their own apps/websites (not through Roku), canceling on Roku won't stop those charges. You need to cancel directly with each service. Check your credit card statement to see who's actually billing you โ "ROKU" charges are Roku-billed, while "NETFLIX" or "HULU" charges are direct.
Remove Channels from Roku
Removing a channel from your Roku device is different from canceling a subscription. Removing just hides the app โ it doesn't stop billing.
Navigate to the channel on your home screen
Press the * (star) button on your remote
Select Remove channel
Confirm removal
Important: If you have an active subscription, cancel it FIRST at my.roku.com before removing
Update or Remove Payment Method
Go to my.roku.com โ Payment method
Click Update to change your card
You cannot fully remove a payment method while active subscriptions exist
Cancel all subscriptions first, then remove the payment method
Without a payment method, you can't accidentally subscribe to anything new
Close Your Roku Account Entirely
Most people don't need to close their Roku account โ you can keep it free with no subscriptions. But if you want it gone:
Cancel ALL active subscriptions at my.roku.com
Remove your payment method
Contact Roku support: 1-816-272-8106
Request account deletion
Warning: This deactivates all Roku devices linked to the account. You'll need to factory reset and create a new account to use them again.
๐ด Account Deletion Deactivates Your Hardware
Closing your Roku account disables every Roku device, TV, and Streambar linked to it. If you have a Roku TV, you'll lose smart TV functionality until you set up a new account. Think carefully โ just removing subscriptions and payment methods is usually sufficient.
Factory Reset Your Roku Device
If you're selling or giving away your Roku:
Go to Settings โ System โ Advanced system settings
Select Factory reset
Enter the code shown on screen
Device wipes all personal data, channels, and account info
Also delink the device at my.roku.com โ My linked devices
Save Money Without Canceling Everything
The Roku Channel is free: Thousands of movies and shows with ads โ no subscription needed
Rotate premium subscriptions: Subscribe to one service per month, binge, cancel, move to the next
Check for duplicates: Are you paying for Starz through both Roku AND your cable provider?
Annual plans save 15-30%: If you do keep a service, annual billing is almost always cheaper
Free alternatives: Tubi, Pluto TV, Crackle, and Freevee are all free ad-supported channels on Roku
Roku vs Subscribing Directly
Convenience: One bill for multiple services (Roku) vs separate logins and bills (direct)
Pricing: Usually identical, but some services offer direct-only deals or student discounts
Cancellation: Easier to see everything in one place on my.roku.com
Portability: Direct subscriptions work on any device. Roku-billed subscriptions may only work through Roku.
Recommendation: Subscribe directly for services you use on multiple devices. Use Roku billing only for Roku-exclusive viewing.
