📌 Postmates = Uber Eats Now
Uber acquired Postmates in 2020 and fully merged it into Uber Eats in 2023. If you're still seeing "Postmates" charges on your bank statement, it's now billing as Uber Eats or Uber One. Your Postmates account was automatically migrated.
When Uber absorbed Postmates, they migrated all "Postmates Unlimited" subscribers to "Uber One" ($9.99/month or $99.99/year). Many people didn't realize this happened — they stopped using the Postmates app and assumed they were no longer subscribed. But the subscription kept billing under the Uber umbrella.
If you're seeing charges labeled "UBER EATS," "UBER ONE," or even still "POSTMATES" on your statement, here's how to stop them.
If you can't locate your subscription in the Uber app (common after the migration), contact Uber support through the app: Help → Account and Payment → Uber One → "I want to cancel." You can also tweet @Uber_Support — they respond faster on public channels.
⚠️ Check BOTH Uber Accounts
During the merger, some people ended up with two Uber accounts — their original Uber account and the migrated Postmates account. If you're still seeing charges after canceling, check if you have a second account under a different email address.
Uber One's main benefit is free delivery on orders $15+ and 5% savings on delivery and pickup orders. Let's do the math:
Sounds reasonable — but here's the trap. Uber One encourages you to order delivery more often, because you feel like you're "wasting" the subscription if you don't. The average Uber One member orders 4-5x/month, spending $120-175 on food that would cost $40-60 if they cooked. The subscription "saves" $20-30 while encouraging $80-135 in extra spending.
Even with Uber One, you're still paying:
A $15 meal at the restaurant becomes $25-30 delivered through Uber Eats, even with Uber One. Over a year of 4 orders/month, that's an extra $480-720 in hidden costs beyond the subscription itself.
Uber One refund policy is flexible — especially if you can show you didn't use the membership. In the Uber app, go to Help → Uber One → "I'd like a refund." Explain that you were charged after the Postmates migration without consent. Uber typically refunds the most recent charge; if you push, they may refund 2-3 months.
If Uber denies your refund and you were charged without clear consent during the migration, you can dispute the charges with your bank. The Postmates-to-Uber One migration didn't always require explicit opt-in, which is grounds for a dispute.
