Cancel Postman Pro/Enterprise in 2026: You Don't Need It

Updated February 2026 • 6 min read

What Postman Charges

Postman transformed from a free Chrome extension into a $5.6B company by gradually moving features behind paywalls:

A 10-person team on Professional pays $3,480/year for an API testing tool.

How to Cancel Postman

Step 1: Export Your Collections

  1. Open Postman → click the collection name
  2. Click the three dots (...) → "Export"
  3. Choose Collection v2.1 format (JSON)
  4. Export environments separately: click gear icon → "Export"
  5. Save everything to a Git repository

Step 2: Cancel the Subscription

  1. Go to web.postman.co → Team Settings → Billing
  2. Click "Edit Plan"
  3. Select "Free" plan
  4. Confirm downgrade

Your paid features will work until the current billing period ends, then you revert to free limits.

Free Alternatives That Work Better

  • Bruno (free, open-source) — stores collections as files in your Git repo. No cloud sync needed. Imports Postman collections directly
  • Insomnia (free tier, open-source core) — full REST/GraphQL/gRPC client. Design-first API development
  • VS Code REST Client (free extension) — write HTTP requests directly in .http files. Lives in your codebase. Zero context switching
  • Thunder Client (free VS Code extension) — Postman-like UI inside VS Code
  • HTTPie (free CLI + free desktop app) — beautiful, fast, supports all HTTP methods and auth types
  • curl (free, everywhere) — the original API testing tool. Scripts live in your repo forever

Why Teams Are Leaving Postman

  1. Cloud-dependent: Postman syncs everything to their cloud. For companies with API security concerns, this is a non-starter
  2. Bloat: The desktop app now uses 500MB-1GB of RAM for what used to be a lightweight tool
  3. Git-native alternatives: Bruno and VS Code REST Client store requests AS CODE in your repo — version controlled, reviewable, no vendor lock-in
  4. AI testing: AI code assistants can now generate API tests from OpenAPI specs in seconds

⚡ Quick Migration: Postman → Bruno

  1. Export Postman collection as JSON
  2. Download Bruno from usebruno.com
  3. File → Import Collection → select your Postman JSON
  4. Done. Everything imports: requests, environments, tests
