Last updated: February 2026 • Difficulty: Easy • Cost: $9–$50/yr per domain
Disable Auto-Renew
- Log in to porkbun.com

- Click on the domain you want to stop paying for
- Toggle Auto-Renew to OFF
- The domain remains yours until its expiration date
Transfer to Another Registrar
- In Porkbun, go to Domain Management → click the domain
- Disable Domain Lock
- Get your Authorization/EPP Code
- Go to the new registrar and initiate an incoming transfer
- Enter the auth code and pay the transfer fee (usually 1 year renewal)
- Approve the transfer confirmation email from Porkbun
Should You Even Switch From Porkbun?
Porkbun is already one of the cheapest domain registrars available. A .com domain costs around $10.37/yr with free WHOIS privacy included. The only registrar that's consistently cheaper is Cloudflare Registrar (~$9.15/yr for .com), which charges at-cost with zero markup.
If you're canceling because you don't need the domain anymore, just disable auto-renew. If you're trying to save money, the savings from moving elsewhere are minimal ($1-2/year).
What Happens When a Domain Expires
- Day 1-30: Grace period — you can still renew at normal price
- Day 30-60: Redemption period — renewal costs extra ($80+)
- After 60+ days: Domain is deleted and becomes available publicly
- Your website and email stop working immediately at expiration
