How to Delete or Deactivate Pinterest in 2026
Pinterest itself is free, but if you're using Pinterest Ads or just want to delete your account for privacy reasons, here's how — plus how to save your boards and pins first.
Deactivate vs Delete: What's the Difference?
- Deactivate: Hides your profile and pins. You can reactivate anytime by logging back in.
- Delete: Permanently removes your account, pins, and boards after 14 days. Cannot be undone.
Deactivate Your Account
- Go to pinterest.com/settings
- Scroll to Account management
- Click Deactivate account
- Select a reason → confirm
Permanently Delete Your Account
- Go to pinterest.com/settings
- Scroll to Account management
- Click Delete your data and account
- Confirm — you have 14 days to change your mind
- After 14 days, deletion is permanent and irreversible
🚨 Download your data first: Go to Settings → Privacy and data → Request your data. Pinterest will email you a download link with all your pins, boards, and profile information.
Cancel Pinterest Ads
If you're running Pinterest Ads (the actual paid service):
- Go to ads.pinterest.com
- Pause all active campaigns
- Remove your payment method under Billing
- Note: You can't "cancel" Pinterest Ads — just pause campaigns and remove payment
Cancel on Mobile
- iOS/Android: Open Pinterest → Profile → Settings (gear) → Account management → Deactivate or Delete
- The mobile app has the same options as the website
Why People Leave Pinterest
- Privacy concerns: Pinterest tracks browsing habits extensively for ad targeting
- Time drain: The infinite scroll is designed to keep you browsing
- Ad overload: Promoted pins now make up a significant portion of feeds
- Email spam: Pinterest sends frequent notification emails (disable in settings)
- Account cleanup: Reducing your digital footprint
💡 Before deleting: Try deactivating first. If you don't miss it after a month, then permanently delete. Deactivation gives you a risk-free trial separation.
