How to Cancel PeopleFinders ($24.95/mo) and Remove Your Data

Updated February 2026 โ€ข Online or phone โ€ข Opt-out separately

๐Ÿšจ Two separate issues: Canceling your PeopleFinders membership stops the monthly charge. But your personal data stays in their database unless you separately opt out. This guide covers both.

Cancel Your PeopleFinders Membership

Method 1: Online (Quickest)

  1. Go to peoplefinders.com and sign in
  2. Click your name/avatar โ†’ Account
  3. Look for Cancel Membership or Manage Subscription
  4. Follow the prompts โ€” they'll show retention offers (ignore them)
  5. Confirm cancellation and save/screenshot the confirmation

The cancel button is intentionally hard to find. If you can't locate it, use Method 2.

Method 2: Phone

  1. Call 1-800-718-8997
  2. Say you want to cancel your membership immediately
  3. They'll try to offer discounts โ€” decline firmly
  4. Ask for a confirmation email and refund of the current billing period

Remove Your Personal Data (Opt Out)

Canceling your membership does NOT remove your data from PeopleFinders. To remove yourself:

  1. Go to peoplefinders.com/opt-out
  2. Search for yourself by name and state
  3. Find your listing and click This is me
  4. Enter your email address for verification
  5. Click the confirmation link in the email
  6. Your listing will be removed within 24-48 hours
โš ๏ธ Also opt out of sister sites: PeopleFinders shares data with Instant Checkmate, Intelius, and other people search sites. You need to opt out of each one separately:
  • instantcheckmate.com/opt-out
  • intelius.com/opt-out
  • spokeo.com/optout
  • whitepages.com/suppression-requests

How People Get Signed Up Without Knowing

Most PeopleFinders subscribers didn't intentionally sign up. Common scenarios:

  • Confusing checkout flows: Searching for someone on a "free" site that redirects to PeopleFinders with a trial that auto-converts
  • $1 "trial" reports: A single background check that silently enrolls you in a $24.95/month membership
  • Fine print: The recurring charge is mentioned, but buried in terms most people don't read

Getting a Refund

  • Call and ask: If you didn't knowingly sign up, say so. Many reps will refund 1-3 months
  • Credit card dispute: If PeopleFinders won't refund, file a dispute with your bank for "recurring charge not authorized"
  • BBB complaint: File at bbb.org โ€” companies often respond to BBB complaints with refunds to maintain their rating
  • FTC complaint: File at reportfraud.ftc.gov if you believe the enrollment was deceptive

Free Alternatives for People Search

  • Google: Search "firstname lastname city" โ€” often finds social media, LinkedIn, public records
  • Social media: Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram search directly
  • County court records: Most county courts have free online record search
  • USPS address lookup: tools.usps.com for address verification
  • Voter registration: Many states have free voter lookup databases

People search sites aggregate publicly available data. You can usually find the same information for free with a bit more effort.
