Do You Actually Need It?
You need it if:
- You play online multiplayer (Splatoon, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pokemon)
- You regularly play the classic NES/SNES/N64/Game Boy games
- You use cloud save backups (some games require it)
You DON'T need it if:
- You only play single-player games (Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing offline)
- You haven't turned on your Switch in months
- You already finished the retro games you wanted to play
Cloud Save Warning
⚠️ Some games ONLY support cloud saves through Nintendo Switch Online (no local backup). If you cancel, your cloud saves remain for 180 days, then are deleted. Check which of your games use cloud saves before cancelling.
💡 Tip: If you're on an Expansion Pack plan ($49.99-79.99/year) but rarely touch the N64/Genesis games, downgrade to the base plan ($19.99-34.99/year). That's $15-45/year saved while keeping online multiplayer and cloud saves.
