How to Cancel Mint Mobile in 2026 (Port Your Number First)
Updated February 2026 ยท 4 min read
Mint Mobile charges $15-30/month (prepaid in 3, 6, or 12-month blocks). Since T-Mobile acquired Mint, the once-scrappy budget carrier has changed. If you're switching, the process is simple but order matters.
๐ด Port your number FIRST: Activate your new carrier and port your number before doing anything with Mint. Once the port completes, Mint automatically cancels your line. If you cancel Mint first, you may lose your phone number.
How to Cancel
- Port out: Get your Mint account number and PIN from my.mintmobile.com/account
- Give these to your new carrier when activating
- Once the port completes (1-3 days), Mint cancels automatically
- Turn off auto-renew: If not porting, go to Account โ Plan โ turn off auto-renewal
- Your service continues until the prepaid period ends
Refund on Prepaid Time
Mint Mobile is prepaid, so you generally cannot get a refund for unused months. If you prepaid for 12 months and cancel after 3, you lose the remaining 9 months. The 7-day money-back guarantee only applies to the first week after activation. Plan your switch timing accordingly.
Cheaper/Better Alternatives
- Visible ($25/month, Verizon): Unlimited everything, no prepay commitment
- US Mobile ($15-25/month): Choose Verizon or T-Mobile network
- Tello ($10-25/month): Customizable plans on T-Mobile network
- Google Fi ($20/month): Auto-switches between T-Mobile/US Cellular, great for travel
