How to Cancel Linode / Akamai Cloud (2026 Guide)

Updated February 2026 · Delete ALL resources before closing

⚠️ Critical: Linode charges hourly for running instances. Simply "not logging in" doesn't stop billing. You must delete every Linode, volume, NodeBalancer, and backup to stop charges — then close your account.

Step 1: Back Up Your Data

SSH into each server and download files you need
Export databases (mysqldump, pg_dump, etc.)
Download any Linode backups you want to keep
Save your Linode configuration (StackScripts, etc.)

Step 2: Delete ALL Resources

Log in to cloud.linode.com
Linodes: Delete every server instance (power off first, then delete)
Volumes: Detach and delete all block storage volumes
NodeBalancers: Delete all load balancers
Object Storage: Empty and delete all buckets
Kubernetes: Delete LKE clusters
Backups: Cancel backup service on each Linode before deleting
DNS: Domains section — delete if using Linode DNS
Verify the dashboard shows $0.00 projected charges

Step 3: Close Your Account

Go to Account → Settings
Scroll to Close Account
Click Close Account
Confirm — any remaining balance will be charged to your card

💡 Check your final invoice

Linode bills monthly for the previous month's usage. You may receive one final invoice after closing. Check Account → Billing to see any outstanding charges.
