How to Cancel LastPass in 2026 (And Migrate After the Breach)

LastPass suffered catastrophic security breaches in 2022-2023 — encrypted vaults were stolen, and at least $35M in cryptocurrency has been stolen from users whose master passwords were cracked. If you're still on LastPass, it's time to leave. Here's how to do it safely.

Step 1: Export Your Vault

Log in to lastpass.com
Go to Account Settings → Advanced → Export
Choose CSV format
Enter your master password
Save the file — this file contains ALL your passwords in plain text
Import into your new password manager immediately, then securely delete the CSV

The exported CSV contains every password in plain text. Do NOT email it, upload it to cloud storage, or leave it on your desktop. Import it immediately into your new password manager, then securely delete it (empty trash after deletion).

Step 2: Set Up New Password Manager

Apple Passwords (iOS 18+/macOS Sequoia+) — Free, built-in. Good for Apple-only households. No CSV import — must add manually or sync via iCloud Keychain.

Step 3: Change Critical Passwords

If your LastPass vault was created before 2023, your encrypted vault was likely stolen. Change passwords for:

Email accounts (Gmail, Outlook — these are recovery emails for everything else)
Bank accounts and credit cards
Crypto exchanges and wallets
Any account with stored credit card info
Social media with 2FA

Step 4: Cancel LastPass

Log in to lastpass.com
Go to Account Settings → Subscription
Click Cancel subscription
Consider deleting your account entirely (Account Settings → Delete Account)
