How to Cancel Kindle Unlimited 2026 — Your Library Card Does This for Free

Updated March 2026 • 5 min read

Kindle Unlimited costs $11.99/month ($144/year) for access to "millions of titles" — but the fine print matters. Most bestselling books, Big Five publisher titles, and popular authors are NOT on Kindle Unlimited. The catalog is dominated by self-published and indie books. Meanwhile, your library card gives you actual bestsellers for free.

⚠️ The "millions of titles" trick: Amazon says KU has 4 million+ titles. Most are self-published ebooks that nobody has heard of. Search for your 10 favorite authors — most won't be on KU. Big publishers (Penguin, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster) don't participate.

How to Cancel Kindle Unlimited

  1. Go to amazon.com/ku/options
  2. Or: Amazon → Account & ListsMemberships & Subscriptions
  3. Find Kindle Unlimited
  4. Click Cancel Kindle Unlimited
  5. Navigate through retention offers → confirm

After canceling, all KU books are removed from your Kindle. Books you purchased with money (not KU borrows) remain yours.
