IPVanish costs $3.99-12.99/month depending on your plan — up to $155.88/year on the monthly plan. While they now market a "no logs" policy, IPVanish was caught providing user logs to the FBI in 2016 despite claiming they didn't keep them. If trust matters for your VPN choice, here's how to cancel and switch to a provider with a better track record.
In 2016, IPVanish's parent company (Highwinds) provided connection logs to the Department of Homeland Security in a criminal investigation — while actively marketing "zero logs." The company has since changed ownership (now Ziff Davis/J2 Global) and claims a new no-logs policy, but the breach of trust is documented in court records.
Most people don't need a paid VPN. HTTPS encrypts your web traffic by default (check for the lock icon). Your ISP can see which sites you visit but not the content. A VPN is worth it for: accessing geo-blocked content, using public WiFi frequently, or living in a country with internet censorship. For everyone else, it's an unnecessary $50-150/year.
