How to Cancel HP Laptop Subscription in 2026
Updated March 3, 2026 โข 6 min read
๐จ You NEVER Own This Laptop
HP's laptop subscription has no buyout option. After paying $420-1,560/year, the laptop must be returned when you cancel. There is no path to ownership. Plus, canceling early triggers fees up to $1,429.
HP Laptop Subscription Plans
- EliteBook 645: $34.99/month ($420/year)
- OMEN 16": $49.99/month ($600/year)
- EliteBook 865: $54.99/month ($660/year)
- OMEN Max 16": $129.99/month ($1,560/year)
Each plan includes 24/7 support and an accidental damage coverage plan. After 12 months, you can upgrade to a new model.
The Cancellation Timeline
Within 30 Days (Free Cancellation)
You have a 30-day trial period. Cancel within this window and you get a full refund โ no fees, no questions. Return the laptop within 14 days of cancellation.
After 30 Days (Early Termination Fee)
After the trial, you're locked into a 12-month commitment. Canceling early means paying all remaining months:
- Cancel month 2 of OMEN Max: ~$1,299 in remaining fees
- Cancel month 6 of OMEN 16": ~$299 in remaining fees
- Cancel month 2 of EliteBook 645: ~$349 in remaining fees
And you still don't keep the laptop.

โ ๏ธ Return the Laptop With Tracking
You have 14 days to return the laptop after cancellation. If you don't return it, HP charges you the full retail price. Ship it with tracking and insurance. Photograph the laptop's condition before shipping.
The Math: Subscription vs. Buying
- OMEN 16" subscription: $49.99/month ร 24 months = $1,200 paid, laptop returned, you own nothing
- OMEN 16" purchase: ~$1,200-1,500 one-time, laptop is yours forever, resale value $400-600 after 2 years
- Refurbished equivalent: ~$700-900 from HP Outlet or Amazon Renewed
The subscription costs the same as buying but you never own anything. The only advantage is the upgrade option after 12 months and included accidental damage coverage.
Better Alternatives
- Buy outright: Same laptop, you own it. Sell in 2-3 years and recoup 30-50%
- 0% financing: Many retailers offer 0% APR for 12-24 months โ same monthly cost, but you keep the laptop
- Refurbished: HP Outlet, Amazon Renewed, Back Market โ save 30-50% on equivalent specs
- MacBook (if applicable): Apple laptops hold value better โ a $1,200 MacBook Air resells for $700-800 after 2 years
