How to Cancel Hover Domain Registration in 2026

Option 1: Disable Auto-Renew (Let Domain Expire)

1. Log in to hover.com/control_panel
2. Click the domain you want to cancel
3. Go to Domain Details
4. Toggle Auto-renew to OFF
5. The domain stays active until its expiration date, then expires

After expiration, the domain enters a grace period (~30-45 days) where you can still renew at a premium. After that, it becomes available for anyone to register. Only do this if you genuinely don't want the domain.

Option 2: Transfer to a Cheaper Registrar

If you want to keep your domain but pay less, transfer it. Hover is mid-priced — cheaper options exist:

1. Unlock your domain: In Hover, go to Domain Details → toggle off Domain Lock
2. Get the auth/EPP code: Domain Details → Transfer → get the authorization code
3. Initiate transfer at new registrar: Enter the domain and auth code
4. Approve the transfer: Hover will email a confirmation — approve it
5. Wait: Transfers take 5-7 days to complete

Transfer Requirements

• Domain must be at least 60 days old (ICANN rule)
• Domain must not have been transferred in the last 60 days
• Domain must be unlocked
• You need the authorization/EPP code from Hover
• Transfer adds 1 year to your registration (you're paying the new registrar for a year)

• Porkbun — very cheap renewals, free WHOIS privacy, great UI

Cloudflare Registrar is the cheapest option — they charge exactly what the registry charges with zero markup. A .com renewal at Cloudflare costs ~$9.15/yr versus $15-20 at most other registrars.
