How to Cancel Funimation in 2026 (Merged with Crunchyroll — What to Do)
Updated 2026-02-26 · 5 min read
⚠️ Funimation Merged Into Crunchyroll
Sony merged Funimation into Crunchyroll in 2024. The Funimation app and website are being phased out. If you still have an active Funimation subscription, you're paying for a service that has moved its entire library to Crunchyroll. You might be paying for BOTH Funimation and Crunchyroll without realizing it. Check your billing immediately.
What Happened to Funimation
Library moved: Most Funimation titles are now on Crunchyroll
App shutting down: The Funimation app is being decommissioned — streaming redirects to Crunchyroll
Digital purchases: If you bought individual anime on Funimation, access to those purchases has ended (controversial — a class action lawsuit was filed)
Subscriptions: Some legacy Funimation subscriptions still bill even though the service has merged
Cancel Your Funimation Subscription
On funimation.com:
Go to funimation.com → log in
Click your profile → My Account
Go to Subscription tab
Click Cancel Subscription
If the site redirects to Crunchyroll, your subscription may have already been migrated
If billed through App Store/Google Play:
iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → look for "Funimation" → Cancel
Android: Play Store → Subscriptions → Funimation → Cancel
This is the most common situation — people forget they have Funimation billing through their phone
💡 Check for Double Billing
If you signed up for Crunchyroll during the migration AND still have Funimation billing active, you're paying for two anime subscriptions to watch the same content. Check both your App Store subscriptions and bank statement for charges from "Funimation" and "Crunchyroll."
What About Your Digital Purchases?
If you purchased individual anime episodes or seasons on Funimation:
Access has ended: Funimation removed access to digital purchases when the platform shut down
Class action lawsuit: A lawsuit was filed over this — Funimation sold digital "purchases" that turned into rentals
Lesson learned: Digital purchases on platform-specific stores can disappear when the platform shuts down. Physical media or DRM-free downloads are the only true ownership
Anime Streaming Options
Crunchyroll ($7.99-$14.99/month): Now has most Funimation content + the largest anime library worldwide
Crunchyroll Free: Ad-supported tier with limited but decent catalog
Netflix: Growing anime library including exclusives (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Castlevania)
Hulu: Solid anime selection included with base subscription
HiDive ($4.99/month): Budget anime service with Sentai Filmworks titles
YouTube (Free): Many anime studios upload official episodes free — Muse Asia, Ani-One
💸 Stop Double Paying
If you have both Funimation ($7.99/month) and Crunchyroll ($7.99/month), canceling Funimation saves $95.88/year with zero content loss. The libraries are merged — you're literally paying twice for the same anime.
