How to Cancel & Close DraftKings Account in 2026
Updated February 2026 ยท 5 min read
Whether you're closing DraftKings because you're done with sports betting, want to control gambling habits, or just want to stop the constant promotional emails โ there are different levels of "cancel" depending on what you need. Here's each option.
Step 1: Withdraw Your Balance First
๐ด Do this before anything else: Withdraw all funds from your DraftKings account. Go to Account โ Withdraw โ select your withdrawal method. Processing takes 1-5 business days depending on the method. If you close your account with a balance, recovering those funds is much harder.
Option 1: Close Your Account (Reversible)
- Log in at draftkings.com/account
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Close Account
- Confirm closure
This closes your account but you can reopen it later by contacting support. Good if you just want a break.
Option 2: Self-Exclusion (Permanent โ For Problem Gambling)
If gambling has become a problem, self-exclusion is the stronger option:
- Go to Account โ Responsible Gaming โ Self-Exclusion
- Choose your exclusion period (1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or lifetime)
- Confirm โ this cannot be reversed before the chosen period ends
- DraftKings will close your account and block you from creating a new one
๐ Need help? The National Council on Problem Gambling helpline:
1-800-522-4700 (24/7, free, confidential). Text "SUPPORT" to 53342. Chat at
ncpgambling.org/chat.
Option 3: Set Deposit & Spending Limits (Keep Playing, Spend Less)
If you don't want to close entirely but want to control spending:
- Deposit limits: Account โ Responsible Gaming โ set daily/weekly/monthly deposit caps
- Time limits: Set session time reminders
- Cool-off period: Temporary 72-hour to 30-day break (account auto-reopens after)
Stop the Promotional Spam
DraftKings sends an aggressive volume of promotional emails and push notifications. Even without closing your account: go to Account โ Notification Preferences and turn off everything. You can also unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of any promotional email. For push notifications, revoke DraftKings' notification permission in your phone settings.
The Real Cost of DraftKings
DraftKings doesn't have a traditional "subscription" fee, but the real cost is what you deposit and lose:
- The house edge: DraftKings Sportsbook has a built-in margin of 5-10% on most bets
- Average casual bettor loses: $50-200/month, studies show
- "Free bets" aren't free: They require deposits and have wagering requirements
- The dopamine trap: Small wins keep you betting through larger losses
Check your DraftKings transaction history to see your actual net profit/loss. Most people are surprised by how much they've lost over time.
After Closing: Block Gambling Sites
- Gamban ($3/month): Blocks gambling sites and apps across all your devices
- BetBlocker (free): Free gambling blocking software
- Delete all gambling apps from your phone
- Remove saved payment methods from any remaining gambling accounts
- Self-exclude from your state's registry to be blocked from all licensed gambling in your state
๐ก Pro tip: Upload your bank statement to
JustCancel to see exactly how much you've been spending on DraftKings, FanDuel, and other gambling apps. Seeing the total amount is often the wake-up call.
