How to Cancel BigCommerce in 2026
Updated February 2026 · Difficulty: Medium · $39-399/mo
🚨 Export Everything — BigCommerce Deletes After 90 Days
After you close your store, BigCommerce gives you 90 days to retrieve data. After that, products, orders, customer records, and everything else is permanently deleted. Export first, cancel second.
Step 1: Export Your Data
- ✅ Products: Products > Export (CSV with all product data, images, variants)
- ✅ Orders: Orders > Export (all order history, customer info, payment details)
- ✅ Customers: Customers > Export (email list, addresses, purchase history)
- ✅ Product images: Not included in CSV export — download from Products > Images manually or via API
- ✅ Theme files: Storefront > Themes > Download Current Theme (ZIP file)
- ✅ Blog posts: Export individually or use the BigCommerce API
- ✅ Gift certificates/coupons: Marketing > Export
Step 2: Cancel Your Subscription
- Log in to your BigCommerce admin panel
- Go to Settings > Account Details
- Click Close Store (at the bottom of the page)
- BigCommerce will show retention offers and ask for feedback
- Confirm the closure
- Alternatively, call 1-888-699-8911 to cancel by phone
BigCommerce Pricing and the Annual Trap
- Standard: $39/mo (or $29/mo annually)
- Plus: $105/mo (or $79/mo annually)
- Pro: $399/mo (or $299/mo annually)
- Enterprise: Custom pricing ($1,000+/mo)
- Annual plans are non-refundable — you pay for the full year even if you close early
- Revenue-based forced upgrades: BigCommerce forces you to upgrade tiers based on annual revenue ($50K Standard, $180K Plus, $400K Pro)
Where to Migrate
- Shopify ($39-399/mo): Largest ecosystem, easiest to use, similar pricing. BigCommerce > Shopify migration tools available
- WooCommerce (free + hosting): WordPress-based, no monthly platform fee (just hosting ~$10-30/mo). Best for control freaks
- Squarespace Commerce ($33-65/mo): Beautiful templates, simpler than BigCommerce, good for small catalogs
- Etsy ($0.20/listing + fees): No monthly fee, massive built-in audience. Best for handmade/unique products
- Square Online (free-$79/mo): Free tier available, integrates with Square POS for physical retail
💡 The Forced Upgrade Problem
BigCommerce's revenue-based tier system means a growing store gets automatically pushed to higher-priced plans. Hit $180K in annual revenue? You're forced from Standard to Plus. Hit $400K? Forced to Pro at $399/mo. Shopify and WooCommerce don't force upgrades based on revenue — you only pay for features you choose.
