AllTrails+ costs $35.99/year (or $3/month). The main paid feature? Offline maps. That's $36/year for something Google Maps and Apple Maps now do for free. Here's how to cancel and what free alternatives exist.
AllTrails+ includes "Lifeline" — it shares your location with an emergency contact during hikes. This is genuinely useful for solo hikers. But Apple's built-in "Check In" feature (free in iOS 17+) does the same thing — it notifies your emergency contact if you don't reach your destination. Android users can share real-time location via Google Maps for free. The safety premium doesn't justify $36/year when native phone features cover it.
Bottom line: AllTrails free + Google Maps offline maps covers 90% of hiking needs. If you hike once a month, $36/year is $3 per hike for offline maps you can get free elsewhere. Cancel AllTrails+, download offline areas in Google Maps, and use the free AllTrails for trail discovery.
