How to Cancel 23andMe+ in 2026

🚨 Bankruptcy Warning
23andMe filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2024. Download your genetic data NOW regardless of whether you cancel the subscription. Your DNA data could be sold to an acquirer.
23andMe+ Plans
- Free (after initial kit): Ancestry, basic health reports, DNA relatives
- 23andMe+ Premium: $299/year — all health reports, pharmacogenetics, annual updates
- 23andMe+ Total Health: $69/month or $359/year — adds telehealth visits
The initial DNA kit ($79-229) is a one-time purchase. The subscription is separate and optional.
How to Cancel
- Go to you.23andme.com
- Click Settings
- Find 23andMe+ Membership
- Click Cancel Membership
- Confirm cancellation
Email customercare@23andme.com if you can't find the cancel option.
Download Your Data First
Given the bankruptcy situation, download everything before canceling:
- Go to Settings → 23andMe Data → Download
- Download your raw genetic data (this is the most important file — it's your actual DNA data)
- Download your health reports as PDFs
- Screenshot your ancestry composition
- Export your DNA relatives list
- Store everything in a secure location (encrypted drive or password-protected folder)
💡 Your DNA Doesn't Change
The main selling point of 23andMe+ is "ongoing updates" to your health reports. But your DNA is the same today as it was when you spit in the tube. New reports are based on new research, not new DNA. You can get similar insights for free by uploading your raw data to services like Promethease ($12 one-time) or GEDmatch (free).
Request Data Deletion
If you're concerned about privacy (especially given the bankruptcy), you can request 23andMe delete your data entirely:
- Download your data first (you can't recover it after deletion)
- Go to Settings → 23andMe Data → Delete Data
- Or email privacy@23andme.com with a deletion request
- 23andMe is required to destroy your physical saliva sample
